Recognition of Education
RECOGNITION OF EDUCATION
Legislation:
- Assessment and Recognition of Education Act (ZVPI)
- Assessment and Recognition of Education Act (ZVPI) – English translation
- Rules on forms, documentation and costs in the assessment and recognition of education
During the recognition procedure, a decision is taken on the individual’s right to access, apply for and be considered in enrolment procedures for continuing their education at an educational institution in Slovenia.
Educational institutions (Article 11 ZVPI) are responsible for recognising education for the purpose of continuing education. Anyone wishing to continue their education in Slovenia following the completion of education abroad must submit an application directly to the educational institution at which they wish to continue their education. Educational institutions authorise someone to conduct recognition procedures for the purpose of continuing education, and notify the ENIC-NARIC Centre within 30 days of the day the authorisation is issued. The ENIC-NARIC Centre maintains a list of authorised persons.
An appeal may be lodged against a decision issued in the recognition procedure for the purpose of continuing education with the competent body of the educational institution within 8 days of receipt of the decision.
Educational institutions must maintain a record of decisions issued, covering:
- details of the person to whom the decision relates: name, year of birth, sex and nationality;
- details of the document: name of the document, date of issue, country of issue and name of the institution that issued the document;
- details of the education programme, course and year/class/module in which the person to whom the decision relates is enrolled.
Educational institutions must report to the ENIC-NARIC Centre the decisions issued in the recognition procedure for the purpose of continuing education for each calendar year from the register of issued decisions.
Rules for assessing secondary school grades from foreign certificates and country-by-country information, including a description of the school system (grading scales), a comparability table and specimen education documents.
